Anxiety is something many of us live with every day and it can have devastating effects on our lives.
Anxiety is, in, fact, a perceived sense of fear and apprehension that puts us on alert. Our mind has perceived a threat and tells our bodies to prepare the ‘fight or flight’ response. This response is supposed to protect us from potential dangers however what we find is that our bodies never turn this response off. We find ourselves feeling the effects on our body both emotionally and physically. It starts to overwhelm us and compounds, often without us ever even knowing the cause. The cause is often how we talk to ourselves and what we imagine may or may not happen in the future.
Stress and anxiety are linked, however, stress is often caused by an external influences (such as having to give a presentation) whilst anxiety is caused internally and thus much more difficult for you to control or manage.
So how do you cope when it takes hold? We know we can’t banish anxiety completely as some awareness of potential problems is good for us, it keeps us safe. What we need is to learn to manage it well and be able to keep it from becoming unhealthy and leading to panic attacks or just affecting our everyday lives at a level that isn’t good for us.

The conscious mind is the part of the mind that thinks logically while we are awake. The subconscious mind is the part of you that reacts to stress automatically, so when you have a worry it’s that that sets off that entire ‘fight or flight’ response—sweating, increased heartbeats, “knots” in the stomach, cold-sweating hands, etc.
